Kattis, who is an indoor cat on a daily basis and lives in an apartment in Stockholm, has been out on the adventure of her life. When Erick Johansson and cohabitant Sanna Widell were to go on a two-week cycling and hiking trip, they decided to bring the little cat, a farm cat that is eight months old.

Went with in basket

The journey started in Björkliden and went via Abisko to Nikkaluokta.

- During the bike rides, she sat in a bike basket adapted for dogs and cats. She enjoyed herself! Slept when we cycled and got up when we stopped. When we walked, we redesigned the basket so that we could have it on our backs, says Erick Johansson.

Nikkaluokta is the starting point for mountaineering up on Kebnekaise.

- We thought about whether we would get someone to look after Kattis there while we got up. But then we decided to take her. It was nice weather and if something did not feel good we would have turned around immediately, says Erick.

Not impressed

The rumor that a cat was on its way up Kebnekaise had preceded them and the couple with the cat attracted a lot of attention on the hike.

- People were very happy and wanted to stop and talk and pat her. It was very funny.

The walk up took about 16 hours with breaks to rest the cat, and once at the top, Kattis got to feel the snow and look at the view, which she did not seem so impressed by.

Nice to come home

Kattis has previously been allowed to go on day trips with Erick and Sanna. This time it was a more adventurous trip.

- It was very fun to do this. But it was also very nice to come home. Kattis rushed in and checked that all her toys and hiding places were left, says Erick Johansson.
