Pino Hachado (dpa) - Using heavy equipment, road authorities on the border between Chile and Argentina dug a ravine in a snow wall about six meters high and made the road passable again.

After heavy snowfall, the Pino Hachado border crossing at around 1,800 meters in the Andes was closed for several days. A video released by the Argentine border guards showed how an excavator cleared the way again.

This enabled the long-distance drivers to continue on both sides of the border. According to a report by the Argentine newspaper "Diario Río Negro", around 350 trucks were last stuck to the pass. Winter is currently in the southern hemisphere. The temperatures in Pino Hachado were recently around -5 degrees.
