He has been on the run since January 2019. A 37-year-old man, sentenced to seven years in prison for international drug trafficking, was arrested on Wednesday in Belgium, we learned this Thursday from the National Fugitive Search Brigade (BNRF).

Paul K. was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon by Belgian police in Bohan, on the border between the two countries, in execution of an international arrest warrant, the same source added. He had hit the headlines when he was arrested in 2017 near Reims with on board his vehicle 324 kg of cannabis resin intended for the Great East of France.

Arrested at family reunion

His arrest had been particularly eventful since he had "destroyed, by making a" stock-car ", several GIGN vehicles which had chased him". When he appeared free, in January 2019, at his trial at first instance, he fled before the judgment sentencing him to seven years in prison. On appeal in November 2019, his sentence was confirmed in his absence.

The BNRF was instructed in January 2020 by the Reims prosecution to search for the fugitive. The hunt was complicated and long, according to the BNRF, where we talk about "a seasoned criminal with police techniques". Finally, the investigators located "a small family reunion in a holiday center in Bohan where we thought he was likely to go," added the BNRF. "We asked our Belgian colleagues to go there and they were able to stop him without incident," she continued.
