July 16, 2020 Significant drop in June for new car registrations in Europe by major European manufacturers, according to data released by the Acea association. The number one in Europe, the German group Volkswagen, registers 229 thousand registrations with a contraction of 24.8% on an annual basis. The Italian-US FCA group (-28.4%) also fell sharply with 60,986 units as well as the promised French husband Psa (-28.3%) at 148,546 units. Among the other big European companies, lower losses for Renault (-15.7%) and Daimler (-16%).

The FCA group registered 64,927 cars in Europe, EFTA and the United Kingdom in June, 28.2% less than in the same month in 2019. The share fell from 6.1 to 5.7%. In the six months the cars sold by the group are 290,562, down 46.3% compared to the same period last year. The share is 5.7% (it was 6.4%).

As for brands, Fiat registrations are 47 thousand equal to 4.2%, Lancia 3,500 (0.3%), Alfa Romeo sales are more than 3,200 (0.3%), while Finally, Jeep registers almost 10,800 cars (1%). Among the main European markets, FCA (Fiat in particular) has recorded positive results in Germany, where thanks to the commercial program "Di più" confirms the figure in June: while the overall market lost 32.3% in the month, the Group gets a share of 4.9%, +1.5 percentage points, Fiat increases sales by 1.4% and obtains a share of 4.1%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points. In the United Kingdom, FCA also does better than the market average: against an overall drop of 34.9%, it increased its share by 0.3 percentage points, obtaining 1.9% of the market. Brands also performed well with the Fiat share at 1.4% (+ 0.2%), the Alfa Romeo share at 0.2% (+ 0.1%) while Jeep is stable at 0.3%. Also good in the Netherlands where, in June, the overall market lost 40.2% while FCA increased sales by 8.8%, obtaining a share of 3.2%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points. Fiat, with + 37.5% of sales, obtains a share of 2.9%, +1.6 percentage points.   

Numerous FCA models obtaining positive results in June: despite being the A segment most affected by the pandemic (sales down 35% in the month), the Fiat 500 and Panda are still the best-selling in Europe. The 500 gets a share of 17.2% (+2 percentage points compared to last year) and the Panda of 15.8% (+2.7 percentage points). Together, the two cars hold a 33% share, the best result ever for June since the launch of the two models. also the Jeep Cherokee - which in a segment down by 13.3% increases sales by 39.6% - and Wrangler whose registrations increased by 11.8%. The share in its segment of the Alfa Romeo Giulia slightly increased: 1.15% compared to 1.1% a year ago.
