" I am fine thank God ". Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced on Wednesday that he had carried out a second test which confirmed his contamination by the coronavirus. He reiterated his confidence in the controversial treatment with hydroxychloroquine.

"I did a test yesterday in the morning and in the evening the result showed that I was still positive for the coronavirus," said the head of state, in a video broadcast live on his Facebook account.

Confined to the palace

Confined within the palace of Alvorada, where he has been exercising his functions for a week by videoconference, according to medical recommendations, Jair Bolsonaro assured that he presented no symptoms.

“I don't recommend anything, I recommend that you go to your doctor and talk to him. In my case, a military doctor recommended hydroxychloroquine and it worked, "he added, reaffirming his steadfast faith in this drug, the effectiveness of which has not been formally proven.

Eager to regain freedom of movement

In a separate note, the Brazilian secretariat for communication said that the head of state would remain at the Alvorada palace where he continued to receive assistance from the presidential medical team.

Fierce criticism of containment so far and having minimized the last four months the gravity of the pandemic which is shaking his country, Jair Bolsonaro had expressed on Monday his impatience to regain his freedom of movement.

Brazil is second behind the United States in the world in terms of the number of cases of contamination (nearly two million) and deaths (some 75,000) linked to Covid-19.
