July 15, 2020 A 24-year-old worker residing in Osoppo died crushed by a press inside a ham factory in San Daniele del Friuli (Udine). The accident at work happened around 8.30 am: the reconstruction is being examined by the Carabinieri of the local station and the inspectors of the Healthcare Company. Along with colleagues who were operating nearby, the firefighters also intervened to free the young man from the machinery that hit him. The 24-year-old died instantly and the timely arrival of the 118 emergency vehicle with the doctor on board was in vain. The press and the area where the accident occurred were seized by the Public Prosecutor of Udine, waiting to identify any liability profiles.

The accident occurred in the "Principe" ham factory. The 24 year old was a maintenance worker, direct employee of the food company. According to a reconstruction by the investigators, the accident occurred while the young man was working in the department where the hams are vacuum packed. In the next few hours an expert report will be entrusted to understand if the movement of the press that has overwhelmed the victim is due to an error of assessment or a malfunction of the machinery.
