Monument to the Russian ruler in Alaska will be removed from the center of Sitka

According to TASS, the proposal was supported by six members of the council, one person spoke out against.

An employee of the council stated that "the proposal has been accepted." 

Earlier, the coordinating council of organizations of Russian compatriots in the United States (KSORS) drafted a petition against the demolition of the monument to Baranov.

Commenting on the situation, Sitka Mayor Gary Paxton expressed the hope that the process would be “positive, constructive” and “respecting all parties involved in this issue.”
