The days pass, and the epidemic of coronavirus continues its progression in the world. The most spectacular measure came on Tuesday from India, which decided to reconfigure two regions, for a total of 140 million people. Hope, all the same, came from the United States, where a biotech firm announced it would launch in the final phase of clinical trials of its vaccine. In France, the day will be marked by the reopening of Disneyland. Follow the situation live.

The main information to remember:

  • Disneyland Paris reopens, with strict sanitary conditions

A vaccine on track in the United States

While the bad news is linked, it is an announcement that has done good in the current doldrums. The American biotech firm Moderna has indeed announced that it is about to launch the final phase of its clinical trials for a vaccine against Covid-19. The group, which receives $ 483 million from the United States government and is among the very first in the global vaccine race, has just published promising preliminary results in the New England Journal of Medicine .

The main objective of his study, which will appeal to 30,000 people in the United States and will start on July 27, will be to know if his experimental vaccine is safe and prevents infection with SARS-CoV-2. If a person is still infected, it will also be a question of whether they can prevent progression to symptoms or the development of severe cases. The study is expected to last until October 27, 2022, but preliminary results are expected to be released well before that date.

If the formula chosen for the tests proved effective, Moderna planned to be able to produce 500 million doses per year, and "possibly up to 1 billion". Moderna is not alone on the track in the death struggle against the virus. The Chinese company SinoVac is also at an advanced stage of research, and the Russian agency TASS has announced that Russian researchers have completed clinical trials for a vaccine, but they have not released the data.

Disneyland Paris reopens

In France, the pandemic has spoiled the festive spirit of July 14, the national holiday. The virus got the better of the traditional military parade on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, a first since the end of the Second World War, and led to the cancellation of many fireworks and pyrotechnic shows throughout the country. On the emblematic Place de la Concorde in Paris, some 2,000 French soldiers marched in front of President Emmanuel Macron, joined by caregivers in white coats to the applause of the audience.

Emmanuel Macron then announced that France should make it mandatory to wear the mask in all enclosed public places, probably from August 1. The mask will also be required for the reopening to the public of the first private tourist destination in Europe, Disneyland Paris, expected on Wednesday, with a limited capacity, after four months of closure due to pandemic.

Tuesday, during a television interview, Emmanuel Macron announced that the wearing of the mask would be made compulsory in public places closed from August 1

At this stage, the disease has infected more than 13 million people worldwide and killed more than 570,000 people.
