Jean Castex will deliver his general policy statement on Wednesday at 3 p.m. In the National Assembly, the Republicans deputies will be divided in front of a Prime Minister from their ranks, while right-wing figures occupy key positions in the new government.

DECRYPTION

It is his baptism of fire: Jean Castex will deliver at 3 pm, Wednesday afternoon, the declaration of general policy of his government. The new Prime Minister will face the members of the presidential majority, who should trust him, even if the La République en Marche group no longer has an absolute majority. But, even more interesting, he will find the right-wing parliamentarians, the camp from which he came and to which he belonged until the beginning of the month. How will the right react to him, a former ally?

"The real boss is Macron"

Even before this much awaited speech, The Republicans do not hesitate to downplay the importance of this Prime Minister with a much more technocratic reputation than Emmanuel Macron. "The real declaration of general policy was yesterday (Tuesday), at the Elysée". For this right-wing deputy questioned by Europe 1, Jean Castex has no leeway vis-à-vis the head of state, who spoke at length on television for July 14, Tuesday. "The real boss is Macron," said another elected official.

But since his appointment, the Prime Minister has multiplied trips on themes dear to the Republicans, especially on the authority of the State. He also insisted on secularism, while many LR parliamentarians make this issue a central element of the party's programmatic basis for the upcoming elections. "The coming months are going to be difficult," admits an executive. But "we still have our place," tries to reassure a tenor of the party, who predicts Jean Castex "the same social conflicts as with Edouard Philippe."

The vote of confidence, an "indicator"

Should we see in the appointment of Jean Castex one more sign of the good ideological health of the Republicans, with several personalities on the right in key government posts? "It is not in 600 days that things will change aboard the Titanic LREM, we are holding our course", wants to believe any other MP.

No LR truck has yet given way to government sirens. But according to an elected official, the vote of confidence will be an "indicator", before the appointment of the Secretaries of State. In the ranks of the right, some still hope to obtain a portfolio in a government which is not ultimately so hostile to them.
