Former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe was elected Wednesday to head the urban community of Le Havre Seine Métropole which brings together 54 municipalities of Seine-Maritime, announced the community in an email.

Mr. Philippe received 102 votes out of the 130 elected members of the community council. Fifteen councilors abstained, seven voted blank and six did not vote.

The position of first vice-president was assigned to Jean-Baptiste Gastinne who, since March 2019, had served as mayor of Le Havre while Edouard Philippe was in Matignon.

In total, fifteen vice-presidents (including three women) were elected by the council of this urban community of more than 273,000 inhabitants.

At the end of June, Mr. Philippe had been re-elected mayor of Le Havre in the second round with 58.93% of the votes.
