“Today I signed the law and the presidential decree on holding China accountable for its actions to put pressure on the people of Hong Kong,” Trump said. 

According to him, this law gives the Trump administration “powerful new tools to hold accountable individuals and organizations involved in the destruction of Hong Kong’s freedom.”

The US president also said that "he signed a decree on the termination of preferences for Hong Kong."

On June 26, the United States announced that visa sanctions were being imposed against a number of Chinese representatives for their actions against Hong Kong. The measures were provoked by the promotion by the Chinese authorities of new legislation in Hong Kong in the field of national security.
