After having taken several big cities during the last municipal elections, environmentalists can rub their hands: the boxes are filling up and membership is booming, reveals Europe 1 Tuesday morning.

Two weeks after the municipal elections, where they captured several big cities, the environmentalists capitalize on their victories. Memberships are on the rise, so are donations. A major challenge for this small party. Europe 1 investigated.

Between 70 and 100 new members every day from the municipal councils, against 4 to 5 in normal times. "The elections have boosted us," rejoices a manager from Europe Ecologie-les Verts. An effect already observed after the European elections, but much more significant this time. So much so that environmentalists hope to soon cross the 10,000 member mark.

"We do miracles with bits of string"

EELV also observes a significant increase in its donations: 30,000 euros in 15 days. At party level, this represents more than 10% of donations collected last year. "The party's financial health is indexed to its electoral successes" deciphers an elected official. This money will allow the party to consolidate. Hires are thus planned because Europe Ecology-the Greens currently has only five employees at headquarters, almost ten times less than parties like the Republic on the march or the Republicans. "We do miracles with bits of string," said an official. A framework recognizes it: "There is a course to pass to be credible and to have the means to face the regional ones and the presidential one".
