The city has been the scene, since the end of June, of an outbreak of violence. Bressuire, north of Deux-Sèvres, saw the arrival of reinforcements from around sixty gendarmes from the mobile squadron of Saint-Amand-Montrond, in the Cher department, announced this Monday the gendarmerie to AFP.
In less than a month, in this small town of about 20,000 inhabitants, seven gendarmes were injured, including three last weekend, during clashes, according to the same source.
Eight arrests
During the night of Friday to Saturday, the gendarmes were the target of many projectiles, then in that of Saturday to Sunday, it was a brawl that opposed young people in a priority neighborhood around the city. In total, the gendarmes have carried out eight arrests so far: young people aged 16 to 23.
"It is the objective with these reinforcements of manpower: to be more numerous on the ground to reassure the inhabitants and to put the hand on the authors of these violences", explained to AFP the commander Emmanuel Weber of the company of gendarmerie of Bressuire.
