“The FSB of Russia in the Rostov Region uncovered and suppressed the activities of a conspiratorial cell of Islamic State MTO supporters *, which included six residents of the region from among citizens of one of the Central Asian countries and Russia,” the FSB said.

The department said that the members of this cell "prepared attacks on police officers and planned to carry out terrorist acts in medical and educational institutions."

The FSB said that when he tried to detain the leader of the group in the Azov district of the Rostov Region, he opened fire from a Kalashnikov assault rifle on FSB officers and blew up the IED, while being mortally wounded.

The report said that during the "further urgent operational-search measures and investigative actions in Rostov-on-Don, the remaining five members of the group were detained."

It is noted that "there are no victims among the civilian population and law enforcement officials."

It is also reported that cases have been instituted under the articles “Terrorist attack”, “Illegal trafficking in weapons” and “Attack on the life of a law enforcement officer”.
