The mortality rate from coronavirus infection COVID-19 in Russia is several times lower than in other, including European, countries. This was stated by Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects.

“According to one of, I think, the main indicators of the effectiveness of our work - by mortality - our situation looks good. In Russia, the mortality rate from coronavirus infection per 100 thousand people is lower, several times lower than in many other countries, including European countries with a developed healthcare system, ”Putin said.

The head of state noted that as of July 11, only 66% of the more than 170 thousand deployed specialized beds for patients with COVID-19 were “used for their intended purpose." According to him, the overwhelming number of constituent entities of the Russian Federation have moved to mitigate restrictive measures, since the number of people who have recovered is growing, and the percentage of new cases detected remains stable.

“Yes, of course, the fight against this threat is still ongoing. But most importantly, we see a positive trend. And now it’s important, acting carefully, of course, in accordance with the current situation, to continue efforts to overcome the damage that the epidemic caused to the economy and the social sphere, ”the Russian leader added.

As Vladimir Putin emphasized, Russia has managed to adequately respond to the challenge of the COVID-19 epidemic.

“Such truly nation-wide unity allowed us to adequately respond to the epidemic challenge - of course, not without problems, of course, not without certain failures, but in general, we can say that we can adequately respond to the epidemic challenge,” Putin said.

The President noted that for the authorities of the country, safety and human health are priorities.

“At the center of all our decisions, plans, programs should be a person. We have already spoken about this many times. The interests and safety of Russian families should come first, ”the head of state emphasized.
