Clashes resumed between the Yemeni National Army and gunmen backed by the UAE today, Sunday in the governorate of Abyan (south), while the Houthi group accused the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia of killing civilians during an air strike targeting a house in the northwestern Hajjah governorate.

In Abyan, local sources told the island that "armed clashes between Yemeni government forces and Emirati-backed transitional council militants have taken place on the frontlines of their fighting in the southern province of Abyan."

The sources confirmed hearing the exchange of artillery and missile shelling between the two sides from the direction of the fronts of Sheikh Salem, Al-Tarya and Al-Ramla.

The two sides exchanged accusations regarding the violation of the cease-fire resolution, which they agreed two weeks ago under the auspices of the Saudi government, which seeks to implement the Riyadh agreement signed between the two parties last November to settle their differences.

Targeting civilians
In a related context, the Houthi group accused the Saudi-Emirati coalition of killing 6 women and 4 children during an air strike targeting a house in the northwestern Hajjah governorate.

This came in a statement of the Ministry of Health affiliated with the Houthi government (not recognized internationally), while it was not possible to obtain immediate comment from the coalition, but he had previously confirmed his concern to avoid targeting civilians and civilian facilities in Yemen.

The statement said, "A raid by the Saudi-American aggression coalition on the home of a citizen in the Wishah area of Hajjah Governorate (near the Saudi border) resulted in the death of 6 women and 4 children."

On the political level, tribal and political components in Hadhramaut announced the suspension of the actions of their leaders in the local authority in all its institutions and non-service, military and security departments.

The political components said in a joint statement - signed by the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, the Hadhramaut Combined Conference, and a number of organizations - that they took this step in protest of what they considered marginalization of the province in the political consultations currently led by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Tribal constituencies threatened a decisive stance in the event of a quick and urgent failure to respond to their demands, stressing that Hadramout does not represent them in any political agreements or settlements except its sons and representatives for their issues, and at the same time stressed its right to one of the three presidencies, in reference to the position of prime minister in the prospective government .

Since 2015, the coalition has been carrying out military operations in Yemen in support of pro-government forces against Iranian-backed Houthi militants who have controlled provinces, including the capital, Sanaa and Saada, since 2014.

The war, which has continued for more than 5 years, has left one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, with more than 80% of the Yemeni population dependent on humanitarian aid to survive.

The United Nations has warned of starvation in Yemen in the next few weeks unless immediate funding is obtained, and the UN office said that there are 20 million Yemenis out of 30 million who are food insecure.
