Hamburg (dpa) - The 151st German Derby der Galopper in Hamburg won in Swoop. The three-year-old stallion won with Jockey Ronan Thomas at the most important German horse race with a length in front of Torquator Tasso (Jack Mitchell).

It is the 19th Derby victory for the Schlenderhan stud. Favorite Wonderful Moon finished in the struck field. Jockey Andrau Starke thus missed his eighth derby victory with which he wanted to catch up with record holder Gerhard Streit.

The owner of In Swoop, Corinna Baronin von Ullmann, receives a prize money of 390,000 euros. With a total funding of EUR 650,000, the derby is the second largest horse race in Europe after the French derby. 19 horses started in the 2400 meter long race for the Blue Ribbon. Paying viewers were not admitted for the first time due to the corona regulations. Only trainers, riders, supervisors, officials and members of the organizing Hamburg racing club were allowed on the track. The usual racing week around the derby had been shortened to three days.
