China News Agency, Nanchang, July 12th (Wu Pengquan) A reporter from China News Agency learned from the Hydrology Office of the Jiangxi Provincial Hydrological Bureau on the 12th that the water level of the iconic hydrological station of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, at Xingzi Station reached 22.53 meters on the 12th. It exceeds 0.012 meters in the "1998 flood level of 22.52 meters", which indicates that the water level of Poyang Lake has broken through the historical extreme value since the hydrological record.

Since July, Jiangxi, a province in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, has been hit by continuous heavy rainfall. The water level of the river has risen rapidly. Many rivers and Poyang Lake in the territory have repeatedly had numbered floods and over-warning floods. The water levels at multiple sites have even exceeded guarantees, exceeded 1998, exceeded history.

In addition, the main stream of the Yangtze River has also formed a top-down irrigation for Poyang Lake, causing the water level to rise continuously.

"From the 6th to the 8th, the Yangtze River's backflow into the Poyang Lake occurred at the Poyang Lake Hukou Station, with a total water volume of 300 million cubic meters. After the backflow, the water levels of the Poyang Lake Hukou Station and Xingzi Station rose by 0.84 meters and 0.84 meters, respectively. Xu Weiming, secretary general of the Jiangxi Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Command, previously disclosed.

In view of the current flood control situation, the Jiangxi Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters upgraded the flood control level II emergency response to level I at 10:00 on the 11th. According to reports from various places, as of 16:00 on the 11th, there were 100 single dike polder dikes in the Poyang Lake District.

Statistics show that as of 17:00 on the 11th, the flood disaster that began on July 6 has caused 5.213 million people in Jiangxi to be affected, emergency resettlement of 432,000 people, 167,000 people in need of emergency life assistance, and direct economic losses of 6.49 billion yuan.

According to the forecast of the hydrological department, the water level of the Poyang Lake will continue to rise in the coming week, and it is necessary to focus on the dike immersion of the high water level operation in the Poyang Lake area and the flood protection of the Wei River in the Ganjiang, Fuhe, and Raoweiwei areas.
