The Councilor for Finance of the Valencia City Council, Ramón Vilar , has died after failing to overcome a heart attack, according to confirmed members of the socialist group in the consistory.

Vilar, 64, married with two children, joined the Socialist Youth and the UGT in 1974. He joined the City Council in 1983 to become part of the local governments of Ricard Pérez Casado and Clementina Ródenas .

An economist by profession, he was in charge of the Treasury portfolio in the coalition government that came out of the polls in 2015 to snatch the mayor's office from the PP of Rita Barberá. Since then, it has been one of the pillars of the municipal group led by Sandra Gómez .

Passionate about bulls and soccer, Ramón Vilar was a director of Levante UD , the team that he used to defend vehemently.
