A glider crashed at Gilze-Rijen air base in North Brabant at around 1 p.m. The pilot, a 37-year-old woman from Kaatsheuvel, died. This is confirmed by the Safety Region of Central West Brabant to NU.nl.

The woman was the sole occupant of the glider. After the crash, police, ambulances, fire brigade and a trauma helicopter were deployed.

The National Police Unit is investigating the accident together with the Dutch Safety Board and Aviation Supervision, the police wrote on Twitter.

Third dead in two days

The woman is the third pilot of a glider in two days who died in a crash. On Saturday, two Dutch pilots, including a 29-year-old man, died in a crash just across the border in Germany, near Dülmen.

The two planes above Germany may have collided in mid-air. The German aviation authority is investigating the accident.
