Almost 96% of the 2020 baccalaureate candidates were received at the end of the first remedial session. For Sophie Vénétitay, deputy secretary general of the SNES-FSU union, guest of Europe 1 Sunday morning, the new graduates will now have to prove themselves in higher education.

INTERVIEW

Never has the baccalaureate success rate been so high. 95.7% of the 745,900 candidates were received this year at the end of the first remedial session, 7.6 points better than in 2019 according to the Ministry of National Education. Due to the coronavirus crisis, the baccalaureate exams which usually take place in June have been canceled and the assessment has been made on continuous monitoring. Only scores from the first and second trimesters counted in the results.

"It should not be said that the bac was given this year. There was work done throughout the year," said Sophie Vénétitay, professor of economic and social sciences and assistant general secretary of the SNES union- FSU, at the microphone of Europe 1. "The continuous control can be extremely different according to the establishments and the juries", she explains.

Reinforced welcome and work in small groups

Sophie Vénétitay also wondered about the arrival of these students in higher education. After several months without physically going to a school, they will have to prove themselves at the start of the school year. "We know that confinement has an effect on what the pupils were able to learn. We will have to pay attention to the conditions in which they are going to enter higher education. in small groups, but also enhanced support, which requires more teachers, "she concluded.
