According to Russian media reports, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said at a seminar on the 10th that Russia is ready to discuss the issue of restricting new weapons with the United States.

According to reports, Lavrov said that from the perspective of maintaining global strategic stability, Russia is ready to discuss with the United States the issue of restricting new weapons. Although new weapons are not included in the "New Strategic Weapon Reduction Treaty", from the perspective of strategic weapon reduction, new weapons can be a topic of discussion in Russia and the United States. Lavrov said that apart from new types of weapons, Russia is willing to start a dialogue with the United States on all issues that can affect global strategic stability.

Regarding the "New Treaty on Strategic Weapon Reduction" between Russia and the United States, Lavrov said that at present, the fate of the treaty has been determined, and the United States is not prepared to extend the treaty. Lavrov emphasized that even without this treaty, Russia has various means to guarantee Russia's security for a long time.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: Our needs for the extension (the treaty) are the same as the United States. If they flatly refuse (the treaty extension), we will not try to persuade them.

The New Strategic Weapon Reduction Treaty signed by the United States and Russia in 2010 will expire in 2021. The treaty aims to limit the number of nuclear warheads and delivery vehicles deployed by the United States and Russia. After the US-Russia "Guidance Treaty" expired last year, the "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty" became the only arms control treaty between the two countries.
