When the police came to the residence, suspicions arose that a woman aged 25 had been subjected to rape by the man, whom she said she had a relationship with. The man was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning, and prosecutors then decided to arrest the man.

Earlier this week, SVT News Jönköping reported that the number of convictions for rape has increased significantly since the new rape legislation was introduced two years ago. In the Eastern Police Region, to which Jönköping County belongs, the number of convictions for rape has increased in recent years, from 11 in 2017 to 26 convictions in 2019. But only one case concerns negligent rape.

"The burden of proof itself has not changed," says Eksjö Police Rickard Finndahl, group chief of the coarse criminal group, who points out that rape is generally difficult to investigate.
