In the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, law enforcement agencies discovered a cell of the “USSR” movement, an organization whose followers believe that they live in the Soviet Union and according to Soviet laws. Concerning the "citizens of the USSR" who provided the organization with work in Noyabrsk, criminal cases were opened about extremism (Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), a law enforcement source told RT.

The regional administration of the Investigative Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug cannot yet confirm or deny information about the searches and detentions of representatives of the “USSR” movement in Noyabrsk.

According to a RT source, the searches took place on July 8, and two men holding leading positions in the November cell have so far become defendants in the criminal case on extremism. The remaining representatives of the "USSR" in Noyabrsk have not yet been established.

“In the period from 2017 to the present, on the territory of the city of Noyabrsk a citizen <...> born in 1968 and <...> born in 1975 and other unidentified persons, being active participants in the USSR interregional public association (other names - “Union of Slavic Forces of Russia, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), <...>, carried out actions to support the existence of the November cell, including through production and issuance of “inserts for the USSR citizen’s passport” by preparing and submitting applications to state authorities on behalf of the association, ”the ruling on the initiation of the criminal case, which was at the disposal of RT, was said.

The document also indicated that the suspects participated in the work of the regional cell of the USSR, although they “were reliably aware” that the activities of the association were prohibited in Russia.

In the Komi Republic, where the Supreme Court declared the association extremist, in 2019 the head of the regional unit of the USSR Alexander Tyurnin was sentenced to four years in prison.

During searches of members of the November "USSR", law enforcement agencies found fake inserts in the "Soviet" passports and other documents produced by the organization.

The movement "USSR" in various regions of Russia successfully sells such securities, promising unsuspecting citizens who have joined the organization, the opportunity not to pay taxes, fines and duties in favor of the Russian Federation. At the same time, to acquire the right to become a “citizen of the USSR”, oddly enough, is possible only for real Russian rubles.

On a video provided by RT source of the detention of the November members of the USSR union, one of the men says that he is the “secretary of the Extraordinary Commission”, which, according to documents found at his home, collects information about “all types of losses of the USSR, the Russian Empire, the Russian Kingdom < ...> deep into the ages. During the operational-search activities, the detainees refused to sign criminal prosecution orders and search protocols. One of them claims to be a "citizen of the USSR" and "has no relation to the Russian Federation."

In the apartment of the “secretary of the Extraordinary Commission,” the operatives found stamps and letterheads used to produce “Soviet” documents, as well as letters of complaints and appeals, which, apparently, “citizens of the USSR” attacked local authorities, proving their “illegitimacy” .

In late May, RT talked about how law enforcement agencies stopped groups of scammers who called themselves the Supreme Council of the Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Then a criminal case was opened under the article on fraud (part 3 of article 159. of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

An organized association of people who consider themselves “citizens of the USSR” and deny the collapse of the Soviet Union appeared in 2010. Its founder was the Moscow dentist Sergei Taraskin, who declared himself president of the USSR. Now on the territory of the Russian Federation there are two such self-proclaimed “Supreme Soviets” at once - in 2018, Valentina Reunova proclaimed her “USSR”. Currently, various branches of the movement operate in many regions of Russia.

The victims of scammers are, as a rule, elderly people who are nostalgic for Soviet times, as well as citizens experiencing financial difficulties. Attackers promise future "citizens of the USSR" the opportunity not to repay loans, receive allowances for pensions and compensation for payments on deposits opened before 1991, and also urge to ignore the laws of the Russian Federation.
