For her first competition since the Doha Worlds last October, Alexandra Tavernier improved by ten centimeters her record in France in hammer throw, with a throw at 74.94m Saturday at the Meeting in Lyon.

"It was not necessarily planned. I was expecting a good performance after having a good session last week in training, but it was a quid or double," rejoiced the athlete 26 years, cited in a press release from the French Athletics Federation.

World bronze medalist (2015) and vice-champion of Europe (2018), Tavernier erased on her second try a record that she had established in June 2019 at the meeting of Chorzow in Poland.

"We walked on eggs. It was a very family-friendly and super-friendly competition, between pitchers. Even if we pitched with the boys, I was all alone to get the hell out of it," she said.

This record has a special flavor for the five-time champion of France, who would compete for the first time alongside her younger brother Hugo, 19, also the author of his personal record Saturday with a throw at 69.39m.

"For the first time, I launched with him, so there is a symbolic significance", she savored.

At the same time, Mélina Robert-Michon also made a successful comeback, with a throw at 61.44m during the disc competition.
