Berlin (dpa) - The timing could not have been better. In autumn 2017, at the height of the # MeToo debate, Amazon launched a remarkable series.

"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" tells the fictional story of a woman who turns a completely encrusted world of men upside down in New York in the 1950s.

Rachel Brosnahan plays Miriam “Midge” Maisel, faithful, upper-class wife with no wishes of her own in the world. Out of the blue, Midge is abandoned by her husband and from that moment discovers a side in herself that has always been there, but now wants to go out: ironic, funny, frivolous, relentless against himself and others - in short, a natural talent in comedy . At the first stand-up appearance, she is drunk, terrifyingly honest and has little more on than her coat. When she shows her naked breasts to the audience out of anger at her husband, she is arrested.

That is the beginning of a steep show career. Midge is fighting his way up against bitter resistance from the entertainment industry. Only her quirky manager Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) sticks to her. And even that sometimes mainly pursues its own goals. Meanwhile, Midges family life is out of balance.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won a number of awards, including Emmys and Golden Globes. The biggest part of it is likely to have Rachel Brosnahan's stunning cheeky charm. The series is also extremely worth seeing for many other reasons. These include the excellent dialogues, the high-profile supporting actors (“Monk” Tony Shalhoub plays Midge's father Abe Weissman), the dense historical equipment, the feel-good atmosphere. The first season is one of the top rated Amazon videos with 4.9 out of 5.0 points.

The series also hit a nerve with many viewers. The inventor Amy Sherman-Palladino, who has already written TV history with the "Gilmore Girls", summarized the plot as follows: "I wanted to tell the story of a woman who believes that she wants what she wants and who then breaks everything . And in the midst of this chaos, she discovers an ambition and the urge to speak out. And a voice speaks up that it didn't know about. »

A fourth season has already been announced.
