It was in connection with the state launch of Absolut vodka in 1985 by Vin & Sprit AB that the work was commissioned by the artist Andy Warhol.

"Absolut Warhol" was one of two twin companies, but while one was used in the company's advertising campaign, the other fell into oblivion.

When the Swedish state donated Vin & Sprit's art collection to the Spritmuseum in Stockholm in 2008, in connection with the sale of the company, the work was not included in the handover.

35 years later the painting appeared at the Uppsala auction room. The sellers were family with Vin & Sprits former vice president.

"It's a sensation that a work by Andy Warhol that has been rolled for over 30 years is discovered like this," said Magnus Bexhed, CEO of Uppsala auction room, then.

Question marks were found

But the sale was stopped shortly thereafter, as there were question marks about the board's ownership conditions.

It has now been found that the Spritmuseum's suspicions were true, the painting was very much the missing twin agency, and it has now been reunited with the collection.

- Of course, it feels very funny that it is now part of our collection. When it turned up we were naturally curious, we knew that there were two paintings but did not know where the other was somewhere, says Ingrid Leffler, museum director at SVT Uppsala.

Now we look forward to being able to show the board to the public as soon as possible. No crime has been reported in connection with this.
