10 July 2020 Pope Francis has appointed Ordinary Member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences "the illustrious Professor Mario Draghi, former President of the European Central Bank (Italy)". A pupil of the Jesuit Massimo high school in Rome, Draghi has always maintained a direct, albeit discreetly, connection with the Catholic world, for example, at the time when he was Governor of the Bank of Italy, at a meeting organized by the Pontifical academy of social sciences.

In addition to the former president of the European Central Bank, the Pope has appointed two other members to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences: Pedro Morandé Court, professor emeritus of Sociology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and Kokunre Adetokunbo Agbontaen Eghafona, professor of Sociology and anthropology at the University of Benin (Nigeria). The Bulletin from the Vatican press room reports.
