- It is positive that it is being renovated a lot, we need to keep Sweden going. It has been negative in some sectors but then it is positive that some are doing well, says Magnus Holmstrand, who is the initiator of the Renovation Index.

More renovate during corona pandemic

During March, April and May this year, the trade in construction and plumbing, paint and electrical goods sales amounted to approximately SEK 1.4 billion in the three Småland counties.

This means that the Renovation Index rose by 12.5 percent in Jönköping County, 10.8 in Kalmar County and 17.5 in Kronoberg County during March-May this year, compared with the same period last year.

- It is mainly outdoor-related renovation, it has well to do with the season. Many people have worked from home during the spring and have seen the need to renovate the balcony, facade or house, he says.

"Smesterkassan has been reinvested in the property"

Is there a risk people are renovating too much now, given the uncertain future?

- We do not see this risk, but we believe that quite a few holiday funds have been reinvested in real estate instead. It was probably early enough that summer would be different, says Magnus Holmstrand.
