Every day of the summer, Europe 1 makes you discover a new region. This Friday: head for the Luberon and its lavender fields, its vineyards and its cliffs, which are full of places as sublime as they are unknown. Our columnist Jean-Bernard Carillet reveals some of them.

Need to escape ? Jean-Bernard Carillet takes you this Friday in the Luberon and its little-known corners. Between its lavender fields, its vineyards and even its "Colorado Provençal", worthy of a Far West by John Wayne, the region is full of magnificent landscapes.  Our columnist, author for the Lonely Planet guide, makes you discover in the program  Et si on set , on Europe 1, three good plans to visit the Luberon in an original way.

Pedaling in the middle of fields and vineyards

"An original approach is to visit the Luberon by bike. Routes have been devised, with cycle lanes that connect the villages to each other, on roads with little traffic. In total, you can take 365 km of marked circuits. By bike, it is a real pleasure to pedal in the middle of the lavender fields, with this good smell, to cross the vineyards, to take advantage of the panoramic points of view.

If you are afraid of the terrain, do not panic: everything is provided, even for non-athletes. It is possible to rent e-bikes (electrically assisted bikes) directly at or near stations, especially in Cavaillon. With a VAE, it's a miracle, you can walk any path with less effort, even after eating well.

There is even an even more romantic formula: 2CV or mehari cabriolet rides, starting from L'isle sur la Sorgue.

Find the most beautiful lavender field in the region

In the Luberon, there are magnificent lavender fields. If it is not easy to find the most beautiful, as there is competition, I have found a truly photogenic place. It is in Lioux, a lost hamlet, accessible by a small winding road: the D60A. There, you will find a magnificent lavender field at the foot of a huge limestone cliff 100 m high.

I make you the composition: in the foreground, the lavender field. In the second, a small forest which forms a very dense green border. In the third plan, the magnificent cliff with its yellow and white colors, and the Provencal blue sky in the background. Go there in the late afternoon, when the light is warm, enveloping, creamy. It will surely be the photo of your summer!

Fort du Buoux, with its ruins and cliff

Fort du Buoux is a little-known corner of the Luberon that I really like, with its ruined fortress on a cliff and its climbing spots. From the car park to the fort, there are 4,000 years of history: a prehistoric cave, grain silos dating from the Romans and ramparts from the 13th century. All this on one site.

You can take a superb access path, with its stairs carved into the rock and its very low steps. And, advantage, the site is less visited than Rustrel, because you have to walk a bit. Little pleasure: you can picnic on site, thanks to dedicated tables. "
