During this July 9, the mysterious disappearance of Naya Rivera - one of the protagonists of the Glee series - has made headlines in the international press. What happened? Last Wednesday, the actress, 33, rented a boat on Lake Piru (in California), in order to go swimming. A few hours later, the star's son, Josey Hollis Dorsey (4), was found alone on the ship and without a trace from Rivera.

After the discovery of the boy, the security forces quickly began the search for Rivera, along with numerous mailboxes, drones and some helicopters. Despite this, the whereabouts of the person who played Santana in the famous FOX production is still unknown . "We believe that an accident occurred and we believe that she drowned in the lake, " one of the police representatives, Chris Dyer, said at a news conference a few hours ago.

Still, many of his fans have not given up hope, and on Thursday night, thousands of followers have written on Rivera's Instagram that they are praying that he will appear soon. Although many other followers - somewhat more discouraged - have chosen to spread the hashtag #GleeCurse (translated into Spanish as # LaMalimoniodeGlee ) to theorize about Rivera's hypothetical accident and attribute it, in one way or another, to a "curse" than the series Ryan Murphy's would drag from the start.

Glee premiered on May 19, 2009 and its success was instant. It was one of the most watched fictions on television during the six years in which it was broadcast and each song that was reversed became a real success. However, shortly after starting, rumors about the dark side of their popular cast began to circulate. For example, the airs of Divism of Lea Michele (the undisputed leader of the group of singers) and the strong emotional problems of who was her partner on the screen and in real life, Cory Monteith.

Monteith had struggled against drugs and alcoholism since he was 12 years old. In fact, according to People , the actor went to 16 different schools, until he decided to completely abandon his education at age 16. Thus, at 19, the artist was totally lost and even tried to rob a close being in order to buy some substances. That's when his family decided to give him an ultimatum and he agreed to go into rehab.

For over a decade, Monteith was "clean". But in various interviews he assumed that, due to Hollywood pressures and Glee's overwhelming success , he wasn't sure he could stay sober forever. Finally, the interpreter died on July 13, 2013, in a Vancuver hotel, alone and without alerting anyone. "He died from a mixture of substances, which involved the use of intravenous heroin combined with ingestion of alcohol," the forensic report then determined.

In the wake of the news of Monteith's death, a high percentage of fans of the series blamed FOX and director Ryan Murphy for putting their actors under unmanageable pressure. However, rumors of an alleged Glee curse did not appear until Nancy Motes - the series' production assistant and sister of Julia Roberts - was found dead in a bathtub in 2014, after leaving a suicide note.

Four years later, Mark Salling - who played the popular Puck character on Glee - was found dead in a forest located in Los Angeles. The cause? Suicide: suffocation by hanging. A decision he would have made after being charged in May 2016 with receiving and possessing child pornography. Charges of which he pleaded guilty and which, according to CNN, would have led him to spend between four and seven years in prison, in addition to spending another two decades released under supervision and registered as a sex offender.

Since then, Glee's alleged curse has become a hot topic on conspiracy forums. Above all, every time a scandal relating to the cast breaks out in Hollywood. Like when actress Melissa Benoist claimed to have been a victim of gender violence at the hands of her partner, Blake Jenner, and Samantha Ware, who participated in the last season of the production, accused Lea Michele of reprehensible racist behavior.

Still, none of the Glee actors have ever referred to the curse that would affect them. What's more, recently a series worker has chosen to deny its existence. "They are just misfortunes," he assured the New York Post.
