The Saudi authorities have allowed the "Vogue" international magazine, to photograph noisy clips of international fashion models, in the administrative area of Al-Ula, which belongs to the city of Medina, and the Arabic edition of the magazine published clips of the advertising campaign for the brand "Mono".

The footage featured international models, such as "Kate Moss", "Maria Carla Boscono", "Candice Swanepoyle", "Jodan Dan", "Amber Valletta" and "Alec Wake".

According to observers, Saudi Arabia stirred controversy after it allowed filming scenes described as "scandalous" for international models.

They considered that the nature of photography and the dresses of the obscene models were not suitable for the sanctity of the region, as the location of the photography is only 300 kilometers from Medina.

The Royal Commission for the Province of Al-Ula was established by a royal decree in July 2017 “with the aim of developing the province in a manner commensurate with its historical value, its heritage sites, its natural landscapes and its human heritage,” and the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman chairs its Board of Directors.

The campaign sparked angry reactions from activists on social media platforms, who considered that "what happened is not appropriate to the sanctity of the place in addition to the paradox between what is happening in Saudi Arabia and what happened today in Turkey by converting the Hagia Sophia to a mosque and raising the call to prayer" as they put it.

A campaign of photographing decadent models of a foreign magazine in Al-Ula, Madinah, shaking the pillars of every believer and grieving the heart and God.

The controversial move comes in the context of the alleged reforms initiated by Saudi Arabia since Muhammad bin Salman came to power, and is also an extension of steps that have curtailed the authority of the religious police.
