Algerian doctors and nurses confirmed that they had paid a heavy price while responding to the "Covid 19" pandemic, warning of a worse scenario in the country, while the first confirmed infection with the "Corona" virus was announced in northwestern Syria.

"We are working non-stop and we are completely exhausted," said Mohamed Yousfi, head of the infectious disease department at Boufarik Hospital, near the Algerian capital. Some (doctors) have died, so rest in peace, and many members of my team have been infected. ”

Boufarik was the first town in Algeria to report "Covid-19" injuries in February after Algerian citizens returned from France and attended a wedding to injure an entire family.

"The epidemic started here, and it is getting out of control," Yousfi said. The hospital is full. ”

He stated that some employees were tired, to the point that they were subjected to fainting or traffic accidents.

Doctors and nurses have been particularly at risk of infection since the outbreak in February.

Local media reported that 31 medical workers have died, including four since the beginning of this week.

About 1700 doctors, nurses and other medical workers were injured, said a member of the National Scientific Committee, Abdul Karim Sukhal.

Some doctors used social media to express anger and despair, including a doctor from the city of Oran.

The doctor, who introduced himself to the initials «M. Verse." On Twitter, he is proud of "my team who are doing their best", but he also expressed his anger at "all these ignorant people who are paying for their foolishness."

Others complained about the lack of artificial respirators and personal protective equipment, calling for more aid from the state.

After the infection first reached its peak in April, it decreased significantly during Ramadan.

But after the month of fasting ended in late May, the authorities began relaxing their strict closings, raising the number of cases again in hospitals across the country.

Yousfi said his hospital is completely full, and dozens of people, sometimes entire families, arrive daily with symptoms of "Covid-19", and tests revealed that half of the suspected cases were infected with the deadly virus.

"We are heading towards disaster," Yusefi said. Cases are increasing. ”

The Algerian Pasteur Institute, which is conducting the tests, said that it is under intense pressure, as it works more than four times the normal workload, to perform more than 2000 tests daily.

But Yousfi said that many Algerians do not accept the reality of the situation, while some continue to deny the existence of the virus primarily.

"As long as there are citizens in denial and selfishness, unaware of the fact that they are afflicting people around them, and what doctors suffer because of them, the situation can get worse," he said.

Algeria, the worst affected country in North Africa, has officially registered some 18,000 cases of COFED-19, including about 1,000 deaths.

A month after easing the initial closure, the government in late June urged local officials to act more strictly against violators of personal hygiene.

The Algerian authorities have imposed masks in public places, while public gatherings are still prohibited.

Youssefi called on the government to "target closed operations" in areas where the virus has spread, and more support for medical personnel.

"On the day that front-line doctors will not be able to do their work due to exhaustion, no one will be left to care for patients," he said.

The Algerian government decided, yesterday, to enter a new stage of quarantine procedures, which will be implemented starting yesterday, after recording a rise in the percentage of injuries and deaths by "Corona" during the past two weeks.

A decision was taken after the meeting of the Algerian President, Abdel Majid Taboun, with Prime Minister Abdelaziz Jarrad, Minister of Interior Kamal Beljoud, and a number of governors, to prevent urban and private transport in 19 states concerned with stone, during the weekend starting tomorrow, as well as preventing traffic to and from 19 states for a week starting tomorrow, and includes private cars.

In Syria, an opposition Syrian health official announced that the northwestern region of Syria recorded, the day before yesterday, the first confirmed case of the emerging corona virus, in a development that raises fears of a health disaster if the epidemic breaks out in the camps for the displaced.

Maram Al-Sheikh said, "We regret to announce the registration of the first positive case of the Corona virus to a health worker working in one of the Idlib hospitals."

He added in a tweet on "Twitter": "The hospital was closed, the hospital housing was closed, the contacts were tracked, smears taken from them and their quarantine, and an emergency meeting of the crisis cell was called to activate the emergency plan."

For his part, Mahmoud Daher, head of the WHO office in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, said that the injured man was a Syrian doctor in his thirties, and was working in a hospital in the town of Bab al-Hawa on the Turkish border.

He added that the doctor “suspected that he might have (Covid-19), so he underwent a laboratory examination that resulted in a positive result the day before yesterday.”
