Summer is high season for parachuting and the actual accident day in July last year was the parachute club's aircraft on the way up in the air for the third time that day. It was fully loaded with eight jumpers and one pilot. According to the Accident Investigation Board's status report from September last year, the plane was slightly rear-ended at the time of the accident.

Flight is expensive

- Since flying is expensive, it is important to take as many paying parachutists as possible. I don't think you consciously flew over what it did before, but you probably flew on the border, which is fully permissible, says Mats Johansson, pilot of the Umeå Parachute Club.

He is also chairman of the Umeå Flight Club where most of the parachute pilots are members and are recruited from.

The pilot is the one responsible for weight and how the aircraft is loaded.

Johan Hellström is chairman of the Umeå Parachute Club:

- I think we have always had a high safety mindset and after the accident we have become better at documenting, he says.

Emphasized the rules

Following the accident, the Swedish Transport Agency has emphasized the rules that exist for air traffic. And the Parachute Association has clarified its rules, which is abbreviated SBF, "Swedish Regulations Parachute Operations".

- Rule changes take time and should be based on factual evidence, and when the final report has not yet arrived, there are no prerequisites for a rule change now, says Mats Johansson.

- But I feel that pilots as a commander have been given a larger mandate since the accident to say stop - this weight does not work. But also a greater awareness of what it means to be a commander and responsible for an aircraft.
