Around 5,000 people have died in the last month waiting to be recognized as dependents or to be granted aid from the Dependency Care System , according to data released this Friday by the Association of Directors and Managers of Social Services .

Based on government data, some 30,000 people have died on the waiting lists of the dependency system so far this year. Currently, 392,526 people continue to wait for a procedure to receive aid.

However, statistics show that this year there are 44,422 fewer requests and a significant reduction in the number of evaluations and beneficiaries, something that the association blamed on the deaths of people who were waiting to be served.

Among the benefits, the most affected are those related to places in nursing homes, with a decrease in users of 9.3% compared to the beginning of the year, in addition to a reduction in the benefits of home help and in the centers of day. These data translate into a loss of about 11,000 jobs, according to the Association of Directors and Managers in Social Services .

From the entity, they requested an urgent meeting of the Territorial Council to study an increase in the financing of the Dependency Care System of at least 1,500 million euros. In addition, they called for a reform of the law to allow, among other things, the compatibility of benefits and increase intensities.
