People of Syria wake up daily about a week ago for terrible crimes that occur in different parts of the country, and some of them have turned into cases of public opinion, especially those that start with the goal of theft and end with murder or rape.

These crimes, which were distributed between the governorates of Tartous and the countryside of Damascus - in addition to the capital Damascus - set a precedent in the Syrian regime, and the large number of these crimes raised questions about the secret behind their spread at this particular time.

And some Syrians went to link it - with mockery - to the series of events that have occurred in the Middle East region since the beginning of 2020, given that each month of this year brings new wonders, and this July is a month of crimes in Syria.

The
real reasons that the people live, especially the areas of the system, are that they suffer from difficult living conditions, where lawyer and human rights activist Aqabe Barish told Al-Jazeera Net that the spread of crime is definitely due to several reasons, foremost of which is the deteriorating economic situation that puts pressure on people greatly and pushes them for theft or kidnappings and other crimes That may amount to murder and "prostitution."

And about accountability, Parish stressed that the areas of the system lack the principle of the rule of law, especially that what is known as the national defense militias got the green light to commit what they like in exchange for ensuring their loyalty, especially since most of them released the regime from its prisons, which includes the owners of criminal cases.

The social rift
not only left the humanitarian crisis that the country went through, but also had a moral impact, as it changed many values and principles that were promoting social cohesion.

From this side, the social researcher, Al-Saour's pride, looks at the issue of the spread of crime.

Al-Saour told Al-Jazeera Net that the institutions responsible for protecting citizens are involved in the service of violence and are based on it, and stressed that what prevails in the areas of the regime is the absence of law and control of militias that practice violence and encroach on private property in light of the spread of arms and impunity.

As for solutions to curb this phenomenon, the social researcher indicates the need for independent and impartial judicial institutions that protect citizens and achieve them justice, in addition to working to strengthen networks and social solidarity.
