The tombstone of Fernando Buesa's grave has been attacked with red paint by unknown persons last night. The Foundation established by his family after his murder by ETA in 2000 has denounced the sabotage and denounced that "hate speech is still present in our society". Buesa and his escort Ertzaina Jorge Díez Elorza were killed with a car bomb on February 22, 2000 when they were on their way to the PSE-EE headquarters in Vitoria.

The sabotage against Buesa's grave occurs on the penultimate day of the Basque campaign and has not been claimed. The red paint covers the tombstone of the Buesa Rodríguez family pantheon. "He was a man of peace, he defended the freedom of all with the word", is collected in the marble sabotaged with red paint by unknown persons.

The Fernando Buesa Foundation has denounced the event and political representatives such as the PSE-EE Secretary General Idoia Mendia, the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu and victims' organizations such as Covite have already denounced this sabotage. Sara Buesa, daughter of the former socialist vice-lehendakari, has acknowledged that the family is "very upset and sad" after this attack on the pantheon. "The memory of a socialist like Fernando Buesa is far above the moral character of those who seek to display their lack of democratic principles," said Mendia.
