  • The Nantes University Hospital, currently composed of nine sites, must begin its transfer to the island of Nantes.
  • The new director responded to criticism, particularly around the abolition of beds that the project plans.

Will the new CHU project on the island of Nantes be amended in light of the health crisis that the country has just experienced? While some opponents are asking more than ever for a moratorium, the story is obviously very different to the direction of the CHU. On Wednesday, the brand new general manager Philippe El Saïr, 52, estimated on the contrary that the crisis had "reinforced the relevance of the Nantes island project". "The question of capacity arises, admits the former director of the Brest CHU. It will take time to come up with an answer, but it must neither slow down nor weaken this fantastic project. "

The new CHU, the first stone of which must be laid at the end of the year, plans in particular to increase the place of the ambulatory by 10% by eliminating at least 200 hospital beds, and only individual rooms. "Targets set ten years ago which are not unreasonable, even if they can be updated given the considerable demographic increase and the aging of the population", comments Philippe El Saïr.

Karim Asehnoune, new president of the medical commission of establishment of the CHU of Nantes, also defends the project by putting forward the organizational heavinesses of the current hospital, made up of nine sites. “The intensive care units will be assembled, which will avoid the very heavy ambulance transport of the Samu that we had to organize. Currently, we have scanners and MRIs on various sites, cardio 10km from the emergency room ... There is no shortage of comments! The oppositions which are manifested go against our territory. "

The Covid bonus will not be distributed to all

It remains to calm the concerns that manifest themselves here and there, on this subject as that more generally of the means. In addition to the measures taken from the Ségur de la santé, Philippe El Saïr promised that he would meet with staff at the start of the school year, to "imagine locally" solutions in terms of working conditions. Regarding work stoppages, which increased in particular last year at the CHU, he promises, for example, to look into the question of "rest reminders".

But what unions are asking for first is that all staff can benefit from the famous Covid bonus of 1,500 euros. "There is a national ceiling set at 40% of the staff," replied the director. I understand that some people have a feeling of injustice, but management has done everything possible, given its room for maneuver. "
