Both men, 23 and 24 years old, will also be expelled.

The prosecutor had demanded that the two men be sentenced to seven years in prison and referred to a terror provision that allows for increased punishment because it is believed that the men had committed a terrorist-like act. But the Copenhagen office ignored it in its decision, says DR.

"In determining the punishment, the court has taken into account that one of the two defendants, the one who placed and detonated the bomb, played an active role, while the other defendant acted as driver," the court chairman announced.

Shipped from Sweden

The bomb detonated at the Tax Office in Østerbro in the Danish capital on the evening of August 6, 2019. According to the indictment, the Swedes had shipped the bomb over the Öresund Bridge from Sweden just a few hours earlier.

The prosecutor did not rule out that more people were involved in the act, but the two men are the only ones so far identified. No one was injured in the explosion. The only thing the Swedes have recognized is that they drove a white car designated at the time from Malmö to Copenhagen on the day.

Explosive experts quickly concluded that the bomb consisted of dynamite and the police then concentrated the investigation to the two Swedish men, as they drove from Malmö to the Swedish Tax Agency's building in Østbanegade the same evening on August 6, reports the DR.

Silver colored object

Through surveillance images and information from a number of mobile masts, the car's movements could be mapped, and a video camera in Østerbro showed, among other things, that a man came out of the passenger seat of the car shortly before the crime.

He carried with him a silver-colored object, which according to the prosecutor was the bomb.

The bomb attack attracted a lot of attention in Denmark, and is one of the most serious criminal events linked to the Swedish side, which led to Denmark introducing border controls against Sweden in the fall of 2019.
