The Inspectorate for Healthcare and Care, Ivo, will among other things examine the extent to which older people are generally assessed instead of individually, something that Ivo should have received indications during its examination. General assessments instead of individual assessments by doctors, according to the authority, may have led to older people receiving palliative care and morphine instead of relieving and life-sustaining oxygen.

Johan Styrud, chief physician at Danderyds hospital and chairman of the Stockholm Medical Association, believes that Ivo's continued investigation will land in a national disaster.

- We must take care of all patients, the entire care chain from the emergency hospitals to the elderly, with the same intention to treat and cure as many as possible, we have not done so, says Johan Styrud.

Water and oxygen are corner pillars

Johan Styrud also believes that access to oxygen in the elderly homes may have played a crucial role.

- We know that fluid and oxygen are two cornerstones in the treatment of covid-19 and that has not been given to the elderly. There are several examples of how sick people survived and recovered after getting fluid and oxygen, a good example is Bromma geriatrics, where 70 percent came after care.

But can there have been people who could even be choked to death for not getting oxygen?

- It's hard to answer, but you should always be liberal with oxygen and do simple things to relieve and treat patients, says Johan Styrud.

15 properties in Stockholm will now be specially reviewed by Ivo, what do you say about it?

- Scandal, but of course you have to take into account that Stockholm has been worst hit. Now we have to prepare for wave two and three and then to take care of all patients in a better way, this review has shed light on the issue so I think you will be more liberal with providing oxygen to the elderly, too, says Johan Styrud.
