Prime Minister Jean Castex received unions and employers on Thursday to discuss the sensitive issue of pension reforms. A consensus is emerging on the social partners side to reject a resumption of negotiations while the crisis is wreaking havoc on the French economy.

INTERVIEW

It was sort of his baptism of fire with the social partners: Prime Minister Jean Castex received on Thursday in Matignon unions and employers to discuss pension reform, paused in the spring with the coronavirus crisis. Faced with him, several organizations have shown their willingness to focus on the fight against unemployment in these difficult economic times for many sectors. On Europe 1, Thursday evening, the general secretary of Force Ouvrière, Yves Veyrier, calls for "not to speak" of this reform today.

Currently, "we are not talking" about pension reform, summarizes Yves Veyrier about the position of "eight" organizations on this issue. For the trade unionist, there are "strong uncertainties about the fate of the disease", highlighted by the Pension Orientation Council. From where, according to him, a dead end: "How do you want us to go and discuss serenely the question of the balance of pension plans?"

Employment, "the only emergency"

For now, it is necessary to "limit as much as possible the layoffs", insists Yves Veyrier. This speech is also shared by Laurent Berger, general secretary of the CFDT: "The only emergency is employment, in particular the employment of young people. Pensions are not the subject of summer or even of autumn" , he explains, "so as not to pollute the economic and social recovery".
