Candice Monin was 43 years old and a 21 month old boy. She died on January 30, 2018 at her home in Limoux, in the Aude, under a heavy wave of blows as evidenced by the bruises found all over her body during the autopsy. Later expertise revealed that she had also been strangled.

The man accused of this murder is his companion at the time, Nicolas Havez, 35 years old today. His homicide trial will open this Thursday, before the Assize Court of Aude, in Carcassonne.

"Tramping" on the background of alcohol and drugs

On the evening of the events, the accused himself called for help. "When he is heard by the investigators (…), he indicates that the tone rose during a simple argument and acknowledges having slapped him," explains Sébastien Leguay, the lawyer for the eldest children of the victim, born of a previous union. "She was changing when he killed her. It is a pitiless scene, ”adds Henri Labi, who defends the interests of Candice Monin's parents. The lawyer believes that Nicolas Havez had led his partner in a spiral of "homelessness", against a background of drug and alcohol consumption.

According to Candice's sister, the latter never really admitted to being the victim of violence, but "neighbors often heard shouting" Nicolas Havez.

The trial is scheduled to last two days.
