In the United States, the city of Houston has canceled the upcoming state meeting of the Republican Party of Texas because of the worsening coronavirus situation in the city. The matter was announced by the city's Democratic Mayor Sylvester Turner.

According to Turner, the incident will be canceled for the health and safety of employees, agents and other people. Turner describes Houston as a hotbed of an international pandemic. The mayor commented on the issue at a press conference.

The event was scheduled for the end of next week. According to Vice, the internal event was to have at least 5,000 participants.

According to Turner, he has received several warnings in recent days. He eventually made the decision to cancel the gathering after David Persse, a spokesman for the Houston Health Service, said on Tuesday that an event planned for the convention center would pose an immediate danger.

There have already been accusations from Republicans that Turner is inconsistent with general gatherings. Paul Simpson, a spokesman for the Harris County Republican Party, accused Turner of turning his jacket over rallies.

The city has previously accepted protests related to, among other things, the Black Lives Matter movement in June.

Houston is located in the aforementioned Harris County.

The rates of coronary infections have started to rise again in Texas and many other states.

By Houston, more than 40,000 corona infections had been confirmed by Wednesday.
