Wang Yi noted that "Sino-US relations have faced the most serious challenge since their establishment."

"Some people in the United States, on the basis of ideological convictions, are trying with all their might to make China a competitor and even an enemy," the Chinese Foreign Minister quoted TASS as saying.

He noted that the PRC “cannot copy a foreign model, nor does it export its own.”

“China cannot and cannot be transformed into yet another USA, and its path of successful development does not hit the West and does not pose a threat to it,” the minister added.

Earlier, US Presidential Adviser on National Security Robert O'Brien said that Washington would soon take new measures against China in connection with Hong Kong, which, as stated in the White House, "has de facto been annexed to the PRC."
