"We can only complain, it's incredibly unfortunate," says intensive care physician Johnny Hillgren, who chairs the intensive care registry.

On Thursday, SVT News published a news that mortality within 30 days for covid patients at IVA has decreased - from 34 percent in March to four percent in May.

After the publication, the Swedish Intensive Care Register, where the statistics were retrieved, discovered a bug in the system that made the mortality statistics inaccurate for May in particular. Instead of four percent, mortality was 19 percent within 30 days of enrollment.

- We have checked the data and seen that there has been a bug in the system somewhere. It has become a wrong transfer and therefore we have received too low mortality, says Johnny Hillgren.

"User has rigid control"

SIR IVA statistics are used by authorities such as the Public Health Authority and the National Board of Health and Welfare and have been reported at press conferences and in progress reports during the pandemic.

According to Johnny Hillgren, they have so far only detected errors when it comes to 30-day mortality.

- We have nothing else to say that our data would be inaccurate. We usually have a rigid control so this is very unfortunate.

The Swedish Intensive Care Register has written about the error on its site.
