Although the general trend is towards epidemic ebb, the coronavirus continues to circulate in Europe, where several cities have taken the decision to locally reconfigure the population to avoid a further spread of the virus. A phenomenon which mainly concerns Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom, but also certain countries of Eastern Europe.

REPORTAGE

The coronavirus is not an ancient story, and the specter of a second wave is far from being ruled out. Some 16,700 kilometers from us, Melbourne is the second Australian city to reconfigure its population. But among our European neighbors, the virus also continues to circulate, notably in Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom, where localized reconfigurations have again been imposed.

700,000 people reconfigured in Lisbon

Until then, Portugal was doing quite well. But several dozen foci of contamination later, 700,000 Lisbon residents were again confined to their homes, also deprived of a stadium, the final phase of the Champions League being played behind closed doors.

Same scenario in neighboring Spain, where two regions have taken traffic restriction measures, in Galicia and around Lleida, in Catalonia, but without forcing the inhabitants to stay at home.

"We are afraid that hospitals will be saturated like the last time and we are afraid of being affected ourselves", says Christine, who rediscovers the fear of the virus. "We weren't really expecting it, so it's not easy to experience it all." There, it was in a workers' home that the Covid-19 epidemic started. This is also the case in a small town in southern Italy and in two German cantons, where 600,000 people have been reconfigured.

Padlocked leicester

In the United Kingdom, faced with a resurgence of cases, the city of Leicester had to remain locked out while the rest of the country came back to life. "It's a disappointment for everyone," says Jamie. "It also affects businesses, such as hairdressers and pubs that hoped to reopen. It seemed like the restrictions were going to be lifted, but normally within a week, it's good," he hopes.

If these reconfigurations are concentrated all around France, in the countries of Western Europe, Eastern Europe is not spared. After a first phase of deconfinement, Ukraine and Azerbaijan also had to tighten the screw a second time.
