The White House has a new press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, for a while. She was a former political commentator for both Fox News and CNN and is the fourth person to take up the challenge as press secretary under President Donald Trump.

When Kayleigh McEnany was appointed, she said it was her job to suck it in and then convey how her employer and president think that the people of the United States should get a fair and accurate reporting about the president.

"People's representative in the White House"

US researcher Andreas Utterström says in SVT's Morning Studio that he thinks Donald Trump has seen McEnany on CNN and liked her performances, which led to her getting the job.

- It is usually hot to be the representative of the people in the White House, the one who will tell the public what is happening, he says and continues:

- The press secretary should be a kind of honest voice, but in fact you are part of the team. And that's probably a lot in this case, because Donald Trump demands 110 percent loyalty.

From thinkers to press secretaries

Andreas Utterström says that Kayleigh McEnany has no real power, but since the United States is a television nation, visuals are important. And he thinks her TV background is important.

- She started out as some kind of Christian activist. She is a lawyer. And she does very well on television, which I think she understood early on, he says and continues:

- She was a TV fan first and there she learned that this is a game. You should scream back if someone screams and you should always stick to the message. What you say is really less important than how it is said.

Andreas Utterström believes that Kayleigh McEnany has the chance to be quite long-term on the tough post of White House press secretary.
