• Drug trafficking: a war between clans of the Balkans, background of the last settling of accounts in Marbella
  • Drug trafficking: the head of the Pantojas drug trafficking clan arrested in Chiclana

Wearing a mask and a cap to avoid being identified, he summarizes his life as a drug trafficker in the Strait of Gibraltar with a short and forceful phrase: "I have done many bad things" . Under it, a label with a pseudonym: Maxi. It is the only data that is offered, and it is false. Nothing that can reveal his identity, or at least he believes.

During the interview he gives to the journalist Antonio García Ferreras, he delves into the details of the hashish smuggling business in Campo de Gibralta and does not hide a certain pride when he explains that they consider him "dangerous" due to "my background".

A year and a half has passed since the broadcast of this program and Maxi has finally fallen . After a year of search and capture, this violent criminal has been detained as the leader of an organization dedicated to robbing other drug traffickers and noted for the spectacular nature of his blows.

The Arka Alar operation , carried out by the Civil Guard and the National Police, resulted in the arrest of 11 alleged members of a band specialized in overturning and that was based in Campo de Gibraltar and the Costa del Sol.

The agents carried out a total of five searches in the towns of Algeciras, Málaga, Fuengirola and Mijas, where, in addition to an arsenal of weapons, they seized ammunition and chargers, bulletproof vests, geolocation devices, and endoscopic cameras.

Those responsible for the case consider this gang as " the most important and dangerous to detected in national territory in recent years." As a sample of the profile of the criminals who were part of the organization, highlight the figure of a 22-year-old man, who was captured in Algeciras, who had spent five years searching and capturing after escaping from the center where he was serving a sentence for homicide. During the search of his home, he was seized with a pistol and an assault submachine gun and investigations have found that he allegedly participated in one of the armed robberies.

However, the main capture was that of the head of the organization, who had been on the run for a year from the action of justice when he had pending an order to enter prison. This person was recognized and identified by investigators in a report issued in La Sexta in late 2018 on drug trafficking in the Strait as the person who, hiding part of his face behind a mask, used the nickname of Maxi. Throughout the interview, he acknowledged being the head of a drug trafficking organization that carried weapons, stole and murdered.

The dangerousness of the group was evident in each of their blows and in the history of blood carried by some of its members. Heavily armed - they were intervened - two assault rifles, a submachine gun, seven pistols and two shotguns -, after their passage they left "riddled" vehicles and "stray bullets" hits in homes or establishments other than the assault. In addition, "they did not hesitate to carry out high-speed leaks - compromising the safety of other drivers - or ram police vehicles in the event that agents tried to intercept them."

The investigation, which started in February 2019, has found that these criminals carried out violent and armed robberies in different parts of the provinces of Cádiz, Alicante and Tarragona. Especially spectacular was the one perpetrated in the latter province. Captured by the security cameras of a highway toll, the assailants blocked the passage of a van in which a cache was supposedly being transported and after the occupants were gunned down they seized it.

Sources from both bodies detailed that the band used powerful high-end vehicles, stolen or put into the ownership of third parties and provided with false registration plates, to carry out their blows. In order not to be detected by the agents, they constantly changed models, in addition to adopting important security measures , which made the investigation especially difficult.
