It was during the Christmas holidays 2018 that the affected family sought care for the one-year-old on repeated occasions.

The family applied for a care center in Uppsala, but it was not until the third visit that the care center referred the child urgently to the Academic Children's Hospital. There, it was found that the one-year-old had asthmatic respiratory problems, and the child was admitted for care.

Dedication of pneumonia

After a short time at the Academic Children's Hospital, the child was discharged. Just three days later, the child was found lifeless.

The autopsy showed that the one-year-old died of bacterial pneumonia and now the IVO, the Inspection for Health and Care, has examined the hospital's Lex Maria report.

In its report, IVO writes that you see shortcomings in referral management, information transfer and care planning and you now demand that the Academic Children's Hospital make improvements. The measures that IVO wants to see are improved education and better structuring of communication.
