The convicted men are both in their 50s and citizens of Ukraine. One of the men was arrested in August in Germany and the other in Poland in December 2019 suspected of being behind the 70-year-old's death.

At the beginning of May this year, a lawsuit was filed in which the men were indicted for murder or gross misdemeanor and gross mischief to the death of another.

They were also prosecuted for assault on theft for stealing the 70-year-old's car in Markaryd on July 31 last year.

The 70-year-old was reported missing on July 31. Ten days later he was found dead in a wooded area outside Markaryd. The prosecutor's theory is that the 70-year-old was killed in connection with the suspects stealing his car.

One of the defense attorneys, Torgny Dahlberg, has previously told SVT that it is one of the suspected men who put the 70-year-old in the forest and that it is up to the prosecutor to prove that everyone is guilty of this. The defense has also pointed out that there is no technical evidence linking the men to the crime scene.

The third charge is attempted fraud for one of the men trying to withdraw money with the 70-year-old's ATM card.

The prosecutor believes that the men, in common sense, mistreated the 70-year-old to the extent that the man suffered a fracture of the face bone as well as a fracture of the sternum and ribs. The abuse should be judged as serious because the men showed special ruthlessness and cruelty.

They also tied together and taped the 70-year-old's arms and legs as well as around his neck and brought him to a forest area outside Markaryd where he was left. According to the indictment, the 70-year-old died sometime between July 31-August 4 because of this.

The prosecutor believes that the suspects at least through negligence caused the 70-year-old's death through his actions.
